Kent kids get farming education
ABOUT 3000 children from Kent will get a flavour of food and farming at a major countryside fair on Thursday (May 12).
The programme for The Living Land schools’ fair at the Kent Showground at Detling, near Maidstone, features everything from working farm machinery to a sheep show.
It will also include an interactive exhibition run by the NFU, horticultural displays, spinning and falconry.
A spokeswoman from the NFU’s south east office said: “Friendly farmers and growers will be manning the NFU display to ensure that everyone learns a bit more about where their food comes from.
“Kids will have a chance to milk our model dairy cow and an opportunity to do our brain teasing quiz about crops, animals and food products.”
The NFU’s interactive exhibition is being hosted as part of its countryside education programme, run jointly with the Royal Agricultural Society of England.
