New insurance cover protects farmers from contaminated milk losses
Dairy farmers can now insure themselves against income lost in the event of their milk contaminating a collection tanker.
The new cover from NFU Mutual enables farmers to claim up to £2500 if a dairy finds their milk is contaminated with antibiotics and has to be discarded.
“As a mutual organisation we work very closely with our farming customers and are very pleased to offer cover that meets their concerns about being left out of pocket if their milk proves to be contaminated and is rejected by their dairy,” said NFU Mutual underwriter Allan Hainey.
Farmers’ existing NFU Mutual public liability insurance would cover the bill sent by the dairy for the loss of the whole tanker of milk, but until now farmers could not recover the value of their own lost milk, he added.
The new insurance is available as an extension to NFU Mutual’s Business Combined policy.
