RAR Group acquires salad company

Salad company Vitacress has been acquired by the private Portuguese company, RAR Group, it has been announced. The deal, which took effect from 30 June, is subject to approval by the Portuguese Competition Commission.

CEO Nick Stenning will continue to lead his management team, focussing on “consolidation and expansion” of the business, which is the largest supplier of watercress, baby leaf spinach and rocket in Europe, farming about 1,200ha of land in England, Portugal and Spain. Vitacress plans to expand its operations, particularly in the Iberian market.

In 2007 Vitacress had a turnover of £81m and employed around 1,000 people.
