Receiver closes DFoB Lincoln dairy

Dairy Farmers of Britain’s Lincoln dairy has been closed with immediate effect.

The co-op’s receivers, PricewaterhouseCoopers, said the closure will mean the immediate redundancy of the majority of the 127 staff employed at the dairy.

A small team will be retained in the short term to assist in closing down and exiting the site.

David Kelly, joint receiver and director at PWC, said: “Since our appointment last Wednesday, we have been working very hard to find a buyer for the Lincoln dairy.

“Unfortunately, a lack of interest in the business as a going concern combined with a number of customers switching suppliers, have made the situation untenable.

“To that end, we have been left with no choice but to close the dairy in order to stem any losses.

“It is clearly disappointing that we have had to make the staff of this dairy redundant, but our team will be doing all we can to help them in processing their claims.

“We have also ensured we have discussed the situation with DEFRA, the NFU and the unions.”
