Messrs Craig Wilson had 2,169 sheep forward at Monday’s (4 February) sale, comprising 1,625 hoggets and 544 cast ewes and tups. A pen of 43kg Beltex hoggets topped at 200p/kg, with all types averaging 152.3p/kg – a jump of 6.4p on the previous week.

“Export hoggets were again keenly bid for and many more could have been sold to advantage,” said auctioneer Alastair Brown. A pen of Texel ewes took the day’s top cast ewe price, at £107 apiece, with Texel tups selling to £92.

Tuesday’s cattle sale saw 19 prime bullocks average 197p/kg, with 32 heifers settling at 208.8p/kg. A Limousin heifer commanded the top price of 235p/kg, with a Limousin bullock reaching 227p.
