Ringside at Beeston Castle Auction, Cheshire

A much bigger entry of 475 calves met a competitive trade last Friday (28 June), with continental bulls selling to £485 and averaging £282.
Continental heifers peaked at £372, although plainer sorts reduced the average to just under £218, said auctioneer Stuart Hassall.
Native bulls reached a top of £362 and averaged almost £240, while native heifers peaked at £270 and settled at £177. “There was cracking trade for Holstein bulls, with new buyers leading to a new high of £292 and a section average of £95.”
In the cull cow section, black and white cows fetched up to 188p/kg, with OTM beef cows reaching 191p/kg, leading to an overall average of 121.7p/kg.
