Ringside at… Bishops Castle Auction, Shropshire

The Tom Gittins Cup auction held in memory of the late Hall’s director, attracted an entry of 660 store cattle at Bishops Castle Auction on Thursday (18 October).


A good number of buyers around the ring from all parts of the country resulted in competitive bidding and a strong trade.


A total of 365 steers sold to an average of 211p/kg and £992 a head, with a top price of 259p/kg and £1,285 a head. The entry of 291 heifers averaged 193p/kg and £841 a head, making a top price of 230p/kg and £1,130 a head.

Philip and Mike Wood of Messrs JA Wood and Sons of Kinnerton were awarded the silverware for eight Limousin steers.
