More than 1,500 sheep went under the hammer at Monday’s (6 February) sale, with prime hoggets meeting a similar trade to last week, at an average of 198.3p/kg. Light hoggets reached a top of 216.9p/kg, with medium types up to 209.5p and heavyweights selling to 200p/kg.
“A strong trade continues for store lambs, the best making 211p/kg and all averaging 207.1p/kg,” said auctioneer Dyfan Davies at JJ Morris. Cull ewes topped at ÂŁ126 and averaged ÂŁ83.80, while in-lamb ewes peaked at ÂŁ190 and averaged ÂŁ164.
In the cattle ring, strong demand for store cattle pushed steer prices to a top of ÂŁ970, with all averaging ÂŁ832. Barren cows settled at 121.5p/kg, and topped at 166p/kg.
