Last Friday’s (27 September) annual show and sale attracted more than 1,200 Rough Fell breeding ewes, selling to 44 different purchasers.
Judge Ben Williams picked a pen from NC and S Dodd, Flakebridge, as his champion lot, which went on to sell for the day’s top price of ÂŁ140. Overall, breeding ewes averaged ÂŁ67, with shearlings averaging ÂŁ75 and gimmer lambs ÂŁ56.
The annual prize show and sale of Swaledale breeding sheep saw pen of 15 ewes reach a top price of ÂŁ150 a head, with trade slightly more cautious than last year.
Other hill-bred shearlings commanded generally competitive trade, with Herdwicks reaching ÂŁ46 a head, Cheviots ÂŁ92 and Scottish Black Faces ÂŁ72 apiece.
