Ringside at Kendal Auction Mart, Cumbria

Buyers from across the country packed the ring last Thursday (14 March) for the early spring show and sale of store cattle. A superb 10-month-old British Blue bullock took the champion spot, and went on to sell to the judge for £1,000. A 17-month-old Limousin heifer was placed in reserve, selling for £1,300.

In total, 460 store cattle went under the hammer, with all types commanding strong trade. “However, with the spring grass still looking some way off, the younger end of store heifers met the most cautious trade,” said auctioneer Matthew Probert.

A strong entry of calves saw beef bulls sell to £370, with heifers up to £312 and dairy bulls to £205.
