Cull sheep soared to new highs on Monday (1 April), reaching £100 for the first time many months. Cull ewes twice peaked at £100 a head, with many others in the £70-90 bracket. Cull rams sold to £86 apiece, with the rest mostly at £70-80.

Prime sheep also commanded a strong trade, with medium-weight new season lambs averaging 194p/kg and heavy types 226p/kg. Overall, new season lambs averaged 218p/kg and sold to a top of £100.80, while hoggets averaged 179p/kg and peaked at 200p/kg. Medium hoggets averaged 181p, with light stock at 175p.

More ewe and lamb couples were forward, but buyers remained cautious due to scarcity of grass, bidding to a top of £171.
