Prices for prime cattle were slightly easier at Thursday’s (19 July) sale, with 66 head going under the hammer. Under-30-month bullocks were 5.9p/kg down, at an average of 200.4p/kg, with heifers down by 0.3p/kg, to 201.7p, and young bulls levelling at 174.2p/kg. Older bullocks averaged 185.3p/kg, with heifers at 168.6p.


Over 30-month-old cattle were slightly dearer on the week, with beef cows 1p/kg up, to average 150.5p/kg. Dairy cows were 3.3p more expensive, at 126.7p/kg, with cull bulls up 2p/kg, to 132.8p/kg.


In the sheep ring, 351 new season lambs averaged 185.5p/kg – a drop of 5.5p on the week. Texels took the day’s top price of 207p/kg, with a 53kg Suffolk reaching ÂŁ89.50 gross.
