Ringside: Better trade at Mold market

Mold Livestock Market, Flintshire. A smaller than usual entry of beef cattle met an improved trade on Monday (1 November), with 80 head averaging 139.76p/kg. Bulls sold to 168.5p/kg, with continental steers reaching 171p/kg, Friesian steers up to 132.5p/kg, and heifers 162p/kg.


Over 30 month-old cattle commanded fierce competition, with 123 head going under the hammer at an average of 90p/kg. Best continental cows peaked at 130.5p/kg, or ÂŁ1053.70 a head, with Friesian cows selling to 101p/kg. Over-age clean cattle sold to 140p/kg.

James Griffiths from auctioneer J Bradburne Price & Co said the entry of 708 lambs enjoyed a flying trade, selling to a top of 183p/kg, with an overall SQQ of 172p/kg. More than 100 cull ewes peaked at ÂŁ74 a head and averaged ÂŁ49.44.
