Hull livestock market. Pig prices improved slightly at Monday’s (14 June) sale, with baconers weighing 86-104kg selling to 119p/kg. “We had some decent pigs in and trade is holding up, with good demand from butchers and wholesalers alike,” said auctioneer Phil Mortimer. Overall, baconers averaged 103.2p/kg, with lighter cutters settling at 96p/kg and those over 104kg averaging 101p/kg. Cull sows sold to a top of ÂŁ242 a head, with gilts peaking at 93p/kg.


In the sheep ring, prices eased to average 178.2p/kg for medium weights, with standard weights at 170.9p/kg and heavier lambs at 170p/kg. “There was a bigger show of lambs, with decent quality throughout,” said Mr Mortimer. Larger cull ewes pushed prices up to average ÂŁ66 a head.
