Ringside: Store cattle and sheep at Thrapston

A good entry of 314 store cattle sold well on Saturday (12 October), although quality, and therefore values, were slightly down on the week. Some six- to seven-month-old Angus heifers sold at ÂŁ456, with seven- to nine-month-old Limousin steers at ÂŁ885 and heifers at ÂŁ680.
Older Limousins exceeded ÂŁ1,000 on several occasions, while white Charolais steers reached a top of ÂŁ1,516 a head. Stronger Friesian steers made ÂŁ800, with Simmentals up to ÂŁ1,100 and Angus and Devon steers reaching ÂŁ980.
In the sheep lines, 131 stores went under the hammer, with strong Suffolk crosses at ÂŁ60, lesser Texels at ÂŁ44.50 and Jacobs at ÂŁ38 a head. Pigs were also on offer, with Gloucester Old Spot weaners making ÂŁ36 a head.
