Ringside: Store cattle in demand at Castle Douglas

Store cattle were again in strong demand at Monday’s (14 March) sale, selling to a top price of £1050 for a pen of strong Simmental bullocks.
Heifers topped at £885 for a pair of Limousins. Top prices per kilo were 203.9p/kg in the bullock section, and 184.2p/kg for a pen of Charolais cross heifers. Overall, bullocks averaged 174.7p/kg (£711.14 a head), with heifers levelling at 166.8p/kg (£630.35 a head).
Over 30-month cattle were short of requirements, sparking strong trade. A British Blue claimed the top price of 134p/kg, with a Luing reaching £985.
Dairy stock sold to £859, or 113p/kg, with bulls peaking at 109p/kg, or £1220, for an Angus.
