Steady start for new rural wind company

A venture by Scottish farmer and businessman, Maitland Mackie, to set up a massive new renewable energy company (News, 19 Sept) has attracted about £1m of potential funding so far from 270 people.

Although still well short of the £10m target from 10,000 farmers, Mr Mackie remained optimistic. “We’re quite pleased with the progress and I’m confident that we will meet our target by the end of the year. Most of those interested have pledged over the £1000 minimum and many are envisaging multiple windmills on the sites available.”

The investment will entitle early shareholders to a 20% discount on their electricity bills and a potential 20% return per annum on their investment.
