Strong demand at Tenbury holly sales

The famous holly and mistletoe sales, held in Tenbury Wells for more than 100 years, returned to the town this year after a spell over the border in Herefordshire.

At the last of three weekly sales on Tuesday (14 December), buyers fought hard for holly wreaths, with 2000 wreaths selling for up to £8 each, and the best averaging £5, £1 up on the previous sale.

General holly lots sold to £2.50/kg, but averaged £1, about 25p/kg down on the week, said auctioneer Nick Champion. Mistletoe was about 50p/kg cheaper, averaging 75p/kg and peaking at £2/kg. “The weather has been bad and the birds have taken a lot of berries, but the good quality lots still sold well.”
