Sustainable food projects in Africa require UK suppliers

Provided by

Our mission is to ensure that no viable UK export fails for lack of finance or insurance, while operating at no net cost to the taxpayer.

UK Export Finance (UKEF), the UK’s export credit agency and a government department, is partnering with the International Center for Innovation and Agricultural Technology Transfer (CIITTA) and Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) to showcase export opportunities for UK companies in Africa, at a virtual supplier fair on the 9-10 June 2021.

Companies attending the supplier fair will learn more about opportunities to supply farming equipment, systems and livestock to CIITTA & FGV for agricultural development projects across Africa, including the Green Imperative Project in Nigeria, currently the largest agricultural project in the continent.

Leading with technology, this project covers all stages, from agricultural production through to industrial processing, and is expected to create about 5 million jobs and inject over US$10 billion into the Nigerian economy over the next 10 years.

A high priority project for the Nigerian government, it aims to increase food security and reduce rural exodus, contributing to social peace and transforming the lives of over 35 million Nigerians.

Alongside it’s work in Africa, CIITTA is also active in Central and South America, where it similarly aims to strengthen agricultural practices, through training, capacity building and technology transfer.

This event will provide attendees with the chance to hear more about CIITTA’s global activities from its president, Cleber Guarany.

UK companies will learn how UKEF boosts UK exports by helping companies access trade finance to fulfil their international ambitions.

Projects which receive financial support from UKEF are required to use UK supplies and in the last two years we have provided close to £2billion worth of support to projects across Africa, including in Gambia, Zambia, Gabon and Uganda.

UKEF has been running supplier fairs since 2017, connecting UK companies with global project opportunities like these.

We have a network of Export Finance Managers based around the UK, who provide free and impartial advice for exporters.

They help UK companies to check they are getting the appropriate export finance support and, if not, guide them on how to bridge any gaps.

What you can expect at the event:

  • Hear from UKEF’s Export Finance Managers on the products available to support you to successfully export to Africa.
  • Book one-to-one meetings with CIITTA and FGV representatives to discuss the procurement process for UK suppliers.
  • Learn about the landscape of agricultural development in Africa from Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, Emma Wade-Smith.

The event is free to attend, please register your interest before 12pm on 3 June.
