Thame Christmas Show draws keen buyers

Thame Market, Oxfordshire Wednesday’s (24 November) Christmas primestock show, pictured, attracted a strong entry of lambs, with 250 in show and 891 sold.
“It went very well. Cattle sold to a strong trade and commercial lambs were flying – they almost did better than the show lambs today,” said auctioneer Rob Lea.
Overall, SQQ lambs averaged 154.5p/kg, with the champion pen of 47kg Charollais crosses taking the top price of 196p/kg. Ewes topped at ÂŁ67.50, with 55 head averaging ÂŁ49.
In the cattle section, the reserve champion, a 595kg British Blue heifer, took the top price of 260p/kg, with all heifers averaging 189p/kg. Steers peaked at 192p/kg for a Limousin, and settled at 162p/kg. Cows sold to 140p/kg and averaged 119p/kg.
