Time for England farmers’ annual sheep and goat inventory

Sheep farmers in England should have received a letter or email from Defra reminding them to fill out their annual sheep and goat inventory.

The inventory must be completed with the number of sheep and goats on a farmer’s land on 1 December 2021.

The form can be completed online or sent by post, but it must be returned by 31 December at the latest.

Due to Covid-19, Defra has encouraged as many people as possible to complete the form online.

The online system provides a copy of the return for the farmer’s records and a confirmation email that Defra has received the submission.

Farmers who have not received their letter or email by 3 December 2021 should contact Defra’s Farm Surveys Team by calling 03000 600 140 (Monday to Friday from 9am-4.30pm) or emailing surveys@defra.gov.uk

Farmers in Wales and Scotland will also soon have to submit their inventories, but the deadlines and details have not yet been confirmed.
