VIDEO: Farmer of the Year in Asda TV commercial

Former Farmers Weekly Farmer of the Year Adrian Ivory has landed a starring role in a seasonal TV ad for ASDA, which aired for this first time this morning.

Mr Ivory, who runs Strathisla Farms  in Perthshire, Scotland, will be appearing in ads for Asda’s “Extra Special” range in the run-up to Christmas. The 40-second clip was shot on location at his lowland farm and features the farmer in his field alongside his beef cows, before cutting to a family scene in his kitchen.

“Here in Perthshire is the only person in history to win Young Farmer and Farmer of the Year in the same year,” reads the voiceover. “Adrian goes to great lengths to ensure his beef’s the very best. Home-grown feed and nurturing morning and night.”

The Scottish beef and arable farmer was crowned Farmers Weekly’s Farmer of the Year in 2008, and was picked for the ad having supplied the supermarket since the ’80s. He now has an exclusive arrangement to supply 28-day matured beef for Asda’s “Extra Special” range, and also supplies semen for other farmers through its Beef Link scheme.

The ad will be aired regularly for the next week on ITV London, Midwest, North, Scotland and the South East, plus ITV2, Channel4, Five, Sky1, E4 and Living.

Today (8 November) it will appear in ad breaks for Jeremy Kyle, This Morning, Loose Women and tonight’s episode of Coronation Street.

Another FW face on telly

An Aberdeen Angus bull owned by Farmers Weekly Farmer Focus writer Paul Westaway had a starring role in Jimmy Doherty’s latest TV series. Melview Goliath appeared in the first episode of Jimmy’s Food Factory on BBC1, in a slot that looked at the science, breeding and feeding that goes into producing the perfect steak. You can find a picture of Goliath on FWi’s Rural Living page.
