Well equipped organic dairy near north Devon coast

Close to the north Devon coast on the fringes of Exmoor National Park, a well-equipped and decent-sized productive organic dairy farm is about to come on to the market.

Easterground Farm at West Down near Ilfracombe has a three-bedroom farmhouse and extensive modern dairy buildings on 283 acres of mainly level ring-fenced pasture.

It is for sale jointly through Kivells and Nancekivell & Co, with a guide price of £2.5m.

Easterground’s organic status is certified through Organic Farmers & Growers. Its Organic Entry Level Stewardship Scheme ended in 2011 and so the land could be returned to conventional status without any implication for the purchaser, said the agents.

The modern purpose-built dairy unit has 227 cubicles plus loose housing and planning permission for a further agricultural building, while the farmhouse has recently been refurbished.

As well as the dairy complex and housing there are feed bins, an office unit, two earth bank silage clamps, earth bank slurry store with about 1m gallons of storage.

Single farm payment entitlements equal to the area of eligible land being sold will be transferred to the purchaser. The farm is currently in both an Entry Level Stewardship and a Countryside Stewardship Scheme. (Kivells 01409 259 547; Nancekivell & Co 01769 574 111)
