Welsh may have right to license hunting

THE FARMERS Union of Wales says the Welsh Assembly could have the legal right to license hunting with dogs to control fox numbers.

Dafydd Elis Thomas, the Assembly”s presiding officer, told a union meeting in Meirionydd that he had received legal advice indicating that it would be possible to have “devolutionised” implementation of some elements of the bill.

Alun Edwards, chairman of the union”s county branch, said he was immensely heartened when Mr Thomas went through the bill”s clauses pointing out how it would be possible to adjust them in Wales.

The FUW would step up its campaign to get a vote on the issue in Cardiff, and has called on all other organisations that oppose a ban to join it in a united front.
