The first fruit of New Holland’s tie-up with Norwegian baler and balewrapper-maker Orkel was on show at Livestock 2012.

It’s called the Roll Baler 125 Combi baler-wrapper unit, and is one of three models being introduced by NH. There’s a Roll Baler 125 baler, a Roll Baler 125 Combi baler-wrapper and a Roll Baler 135 Ultra baler-wrapper.

The first two produce a 125cm diameter bale, while the Ultra makes (logically enough) a 135cm bale. The Ultra also has a 220cm pick-up rather than the 210cm ones on the other two.

These new machines aren’t intended to replace NH’s existing BR6090 baler-wrapper, says the firm’s marketing support man for balers and foragers Ed Hogan. That will stay as a farmer’s machine, he says, while the new machines are more likely to be bought by contractors.

Specifications are suitably beefy. Five tine bars, a 470mm diameter roller and 10mm thick tines feature on the intake side, while 18 200mm rollers are said to give good bale formation and a balanced spread of bale weight.

Both net wrap and plastic film can be dispensed and three rolls of net and eight spools of plastic film can be stored on board. Auto chain-lube and auto greasing are standard and there’s no need for manual lube duties.

The new baler-wrappers come with twin axles as standard and chunky 500 x 22.5 tyres to keep ground compaction to a minimum. The first machines will be available in 2013, says Mr Hogan, but prices haven’t been announced yet.
