All Farmers UK online photo campaign asks farmers to unite

Farmers across the UK are being urged to take part in a new online campaign, raising awareness of mental health in agriculture and calling for unity in the face of government challenges.

The “All Farmers UK” photo campaign launched this week with a message of solidarity and support for struggling rural communities.

Organisers are asking farmers to take a photo, similar in spirit to Calendar Girls, holding a sign that says, “Save Our Family Farms”, and to tag friends to spread the word.

One of the organisers said: “The idea has brought smiles to people’s faces, and it’s a campaign that cuts through some of the doom and gloom.

“The government thinks there isn’t a problem with mental health in the farming community, but there is, and this campaign will hopefully raise awareness of that.

“It will bring awareness that people can talk to one another, and hopefully, the government will wake up and see the challenges we are facing in the community.”

The campaign highlights how government policy is affecting not just farms, but all rural businesses linked to the economy.

A GoFundMe page linked to the campaign is aiming to raise £4,000, with proceeds going to selected agricultural mental health charities.

Wider consequences

The campaign is also drawing attention to the wider consequences of current agricultural policies.

“Inheritance tax is going to cause dire consequences. The policies aren’t helping small family farms, they aren’t encouraging proper farming, and the money is going into the wrong hands,” said the organisers.

“We need you to remember that we have got your backs.

“Mental health organisations in agriculture have got your backs. So if you need to speak to anyone, ring a neighbour, ring your friend, go out for a pint – don’t forget that we have all got your backs.”

Supporters include Welsh hill farmer Gareth Wyn Jones, who said: “Thanks to these wonderful ladies for raising awareness on mental health within the agriculture communities.”

The campaign encourages ongoing conversation under hashtags including #AllFarmers, #SaveOurFamilyFarms, and #BackChallenge.
