Farmers’ Ball raises more than £25,000 for charity FCN

More than 400 guests gathered at the Farming Community Network (FCN) Staffordshire Farmers’ Ball earlier this month to celebrate its 30th anniversary and raise vital funds for farming support.

The event, organised by Staffordshire FCN, featured a raffle and auction, which together helped raise well over £25,000.

Among the standout moments was a tray of eggs that sold for more than £100.

FCN volunteer Tim Parton said the evening “was a memorable night for all who attended”, with celebrations lasting “into the early hours”.

Mr Parton expressed gratitude to the organisers and sponsors who made the event possible.

“A huge thanks must go to the whole Staffordshire FCN team for organising,” he said.

He added that he hoped the ball could become an annual event, as “never has there been a more important time in farming to bring the whole agricultural community and its ancillary industries together”.

Pressures

Highlighting the pressures currently facing the farming sector, Mr Parton said: “Farming can be a very isolating occupation.

“And as we move more into the digital and technological age, it can become even more isolating.”

He noted that charities such as FCN play a crucial role in providing support and connection.

“As human beings, we are social creatures and having a reason to go out and meet people has never been as important,” he added.

FCN operates a confidential helpline (03000 111 999) available 365 days a year from 7am to 11pm, which has handled more than 2,000 calls in the past 12 months.

The charity also runs Farmwell, a free online portal offering advice on topics including farm safety and succession planning, which attracted more than 30,000 visitors last year.

Mr Parton added: “If you know anybody that you believe to be struggling or have any questions, however insignificant they may seem to be, phone the helpline and let’s keep people supported.

“You do not have to be alone. FCN support is only a phone call away.”
