Photo of the Week: No flea beetle in thriving OSR

Our photo of the week is of this lush-looking oilseed rape being sprayed, taken by Jordan Sizer of WH Richardson & Son in Hull.

Jordan says the farm has been very fortunate this year with the oilseed rape crops.

They’ve had no issues so far with cabbage stem flea beetle and the crop is filling out well.

He puts this down, in part, to the digestate they add to the field.

WH Richardson & Son is a small family farm of 202ha (500 acres) of cereals and 1,700 pigs.

They also do a lot of contracting, which pushes combining/land work to 809-1012ha (2,000-2500 acres) and so a lot of digestate/slurry work with a Samson tanker.

They have a unique weed wiper, which they built in the workshop (see article above).

They also have metal factory called KM Pressing – in other words, WH Richardson & Son is very busy farm and contracting business and we wish them the best of luck with this year’s harvest.
