PICTURE STORY: Military winch makes light work of combine recovery

When a combine gets this stuck, how are you going to get it out?

Guy Lee from Sandystones Farm, Ancrum in the Scottish Borders, has come up with a solution. He’s just bought a 1955 AEC Militant, a six-wheel drive bit of military kit, with a 40 tonne winch.

Originally purchased for £8000 to move mobile chicken sheds, it’s been busy pulling out combines this year. “Three tractors and a JCB had failed to move it at all, but the winch didn’t even break into a sweat,” he says.
