A Farmers Weekly Interactive poll backs a recent government survey which claimed that farmers are amongst the happiest workers.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey data, 20 different sectors were ranked on their “mean life satisfaction”. The study found that people who work in “agriculture, forestry and fishing” were top of the list.
Following the results of the National Well-being survey, we asked readers “Does being a farmer make you happy”? A whopping 81.3% of you answered the poll with a resounding “yes”.
While no one underestimates the frustrations farmers face, this is a heartening result.
In the face of the milk crisis, rising prices and bad weather it suggests a high level of resilience in the farming community and a love of the rural way of life.
