Tractor duo tackle 5,500-mile charity coast run

A 1960s Massey Ferguson 35x tractor, fully restored by two lifelong friends, set off from the Black Isle on Tuesday to begin a 5,500-mile charity journey around Britain’s coast.
The ambitious “Road Rage Cowboy” tractor run will raise funds to support Rsabi, Rabi, Cancer Research UK, the My Name’5 Dodie Foundation, and mental health charity Sane. Â
Marius Anderson and Martin Gill will navigate a figure-of-eight route that closely follows the mainland coastline.

The project began when Marius, a former mechanic, spotted the tractor needing attention in Martin’s collection.
“At the time, the Massey Ferguson 35x was in need of some attention, and Marius, ever the expert, saw an opportunity.
“He offered to fully renovate the tractor, if I covered the cost of parts, he would put in the hours,” said Martin.
“His only request was that we use the tractor for a charity run.
“One thing led to another, and suddenly we had a route mapped around the coast of Britain.”Â
The restoration was a labour-intensive, 18-month process.
The friends dismantled the tractor completely before reassembling it, testing it thoroughly before the launch.
“It was hard work, but as the months passed, we could see the machine taking shape,” Martin said.
“Finally, after about 18 months and much dedication, the restoration was complete.
“The 35x had been road-tested and was running smoothly, ready for the challenge ahead.”Â
Thousands raised
The duo have already raised ÂŁ14,000 and received fuel sponsorship to support the effort.
“These organisations have been significant in our lives, each one linked to a personal story, a family member, or a friend who had been touched by illness or hardship,” said Marius.
Rsabi Highlands and Islands case officer Shirley Hastings was at the send-off from Highland Tractors in Conon Bridge to show her support.
