Whitebred Shorthorn fetches £1,500 for charity
One of only 200 in the country, a rare Whitebred Shorthorn heifer named Primrose was auctioned off on Tuesday 31 January, making £1,500 which is to be given to charity.
Owned by Chris Jeffery, the cow was the favourite of his late wife, Kate, who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer this year.
After his wife received specialist care from the team at St Leonard’s Hospice in York, Chris was inspired to raise money for the charity, which relies on public funding to be able to offer its services to the community.

Primrose was auctioned at Thirsk market, where she sold to a farmer from Malton for £1,500.
So far, Chris has raised a total of £3,000 with the help of Primrose and through online donations.
He said: “It means a lot to me. I still can’t believe Kate has gone – we’ve been together for so long, working every day as not just husband and wife, but also business partners.”
Receiving care at their home in Easingwold, Kate adored the farm, where she and Chris also cared for rare-breed pigs and sheep.
“The final three weeks of her life were truly awful, but the carers from St Leonard’s were so kind, reliable, compassionate and lovely people,” said Chris.
