Cumbrian auction success
CUMBRIAN Land agent Hopes of Wigton had a good result on August 16 when it auctioned the first of three farms set to go under the hammer this month.
Low Dockrayrigg Farm at Wigton had a pre-auction guide of £750,000 but the 165-acre dairy unit, which included a four-bed Grade II listed farmhouse, eventually sold to two local farmers for £840,000.
Auction sales in the area are conducted differently to other parts of the UK, with each lot offered to the auction room separately before being combined and auctioned as a whole.
In this case three main lots attracted individual bids totalling £620,000, before being sold together for £650,000. An off-lying 47-acre block of land made £150,000.
