Cumbrian auction success

CUMBRIAN Land agent Hopes of Wigton had a good result on August 16  when it auctioned the first of three farms set to go under the hammer this month.

Low Dockrayrigg Farm at Wigton had a pre-auction guide of ÂŁ750,000 but the 165-acre dairy unit, which included a four-bed Grade II listed farmhouse, eventually sold to two local farmers for ÂŁ840,000.

Auction sales in the area are conducted differently to other parts of the UK, with each lot offered to the auction room separately before being combined and auctioned as a whole.

In this case three main lots attracted individual bids totalling ÂŁ620,000, before being sold together for ÂŁ650,000. An off-lying 47-acre block of land made ÂŁ150,000.
