East Midlands estate bonanza

Fisher German has just launched the 964-acre Allexton Hall Estate on the Leicestershire/Rutland border, near Uppingham, for £10m and is set to follow it with two even larger estates.

This week, the firm’s Market Harborough office will be handling the sale of the Conington Estate at Conington, near Peterborough, on the edge of the Fens.

The 2210-acre property is priced at £11m and includes a large five-bedroom house, six let farms, 18 separate residential properties, a shoot and a commercially operated airfield.

The estate has been owned by the Heathcote family since 1774 and was originally the site of Conington Castle, which was demolished by the late John Heathcote in the 1960s.

Conington estateAgent Jonathan Landale said the family was selling because it had got to the stage where the estate was not generating enough income.

However, he said property rents and income from the airport still produced £215,000 each year.

Conington is only lotted four ways, which is unusual for such a diverse property. Mr Landale said this was partly on the wishes of the vendors and partly because it was so unusual to get the chance to buy such a large tenanted estate.

“It could be bought by somebody who will fly up from City Airport at the weekend and land their plane on their own airfield,” he said.

In mid-June Mr Landale’s colleague John Pitts will be launching the 1483-acre Stanford Estate at Stanford on Soar in Nottinghamshire.

The sale will include a mixture of long and short-term agricultural tenancies and 19 let houses. Look out for more details in Land and Farms in Farmers Weekly
