Asda opens Halal Centre at a Midlands Store

Asda has opened a National Halal Centre at its Small Heath store in Birmingham for the Muslim community, selling both meat and poultry products under the “Mr Hahal” brand.

This unique joint venture is a partnership between the supermarket chain and West Midlands based National Halal Food Group. This venture is in response to growing demand for Halal poultry products and allows consumers to purchase them during a weekly shop.

A spokesperson for National Halal said: “Asda has once again shown market leadership in responding to the needs of the Muslim community. By allowing us to serve that community within the Small Heath store, it lets customers buy their Halal meat and poultry at the same time as doing their normal ASDA shopping.”

It is seen as a groundbreaking move for both parties and reflects a growing demand from the Muslim community for Halal meat.
