BASCO database gets its 1000th member

The British Limousin Cattle Society has registered its 1000th member to use the online BASCO database herd book system.
Launched in 2006, the database has proved popular with Limousin breeders who can complete their pedigree registrations online with 78% being registered in 2008 online or by telephone.
Iain Kerr, chief executive of the British Limousin Cattle Society commented that such a farmer friendly database is a real benefit for busy pedigree farmers.
“Breeders and customers can also use the database to look-up animals, bloodlines, breeding and progeny,” he adds. “This has been used heavily prior to pedigree sales.”
The BASCO database is also used by Highland Cattle Society, the Texel, Suffolk and Hampshire Down sheep societies.
