Clock is ticking for Johne’s veterinary declarations

Farmers still to sign Johne’s Action initiative declaration forms must act fast to hit the looming 31 October deadline.

Signed National Johne’s Management Plan (NJMP) declarations must come from British Veterinary Cattle Association-accredited vets and require:

  • An assessment of herd status
  • An assessment of herd risk
  • An agreed written Johne’s control plan
  • The declaration must have been completed by a BCVA-accredited vet adviser in the past 12 months

Figures on farmer engagement in the initiative are being compiled and will be available later in the year, said Johne’s Action Group chairman Lyndon Edwards.

Mr Edwards said: “Indications are that we can expect a very good response and we’re confident that the majority of farmers supplying milk purchasers that are members of the NJMP will provide declarations.

“Farmers committed to a future in the industry should not want to be left out.”
