Rockset red-and-white tops dispersal sale

A red-and-white Holstein heifer with a mouth-watering pedigree realised 16,000gns when the Hugo family of Bodmin, Cornwall, dispersed their Rockset herd last week.

Rockset Faber Rachel, VG-87-2yrs, was one of 24 cattle that made 4000gns and over for Trevor, Jill, Robert and Heather Hugo who are ceasing milk production to expand their farm holiday business.

Bred from eight generations of Excellent cows, Rachel traces back to Sellcrest No Rachel Red Ex-94, one of the breed’s most famous red and white cows.

She had just finished her first lactation – 10,930kg at 4.09% fat and 3.1% protein – and was in-calf for August to Ladino Park Talent.

Rachel stays in the county with buyers Messrs Wills Bros of Wadebridge.

A full sister of the 7000gns Rockset Talent Renita Red made 6800gns to the Princess of Bahrain for her Arcadia herd at Crediton, while another realised 5200gns to Tom Phillips, Cardigan.

Mr Phillips also paid 10,000gns for Rockset Leader Rachel VG-88 for his Pedran herd.

She had just given 13,951kg with her second lactation.

Averages: 91 cows and heifers ÂŁ2556, 11 in-calf heifers ÂŁ1689, 21 served heifers ÂŁ1340 and 29 maidens ÂŁ2374.
