Bluetongue (blue-tongue) Control Zone extended

DEFRA has extended the Bluetongue Control Zone following the confirmation of new cases in East Sussex and Essex at the beginning of the week (22 October).

The edge of the Kent/East Sussex control zone now extends into the Wealdon District and the East Anglia Control Zone now moves into London, while the Control Zone around Peterborough and the Protection Zone remain unchanged.

When Farmers Weekly questioned DEFRA as to where the new cases were, a spokesperson declined to comment on individual cases, but said that when the Control Zone is amended, it is safe to assume cases are near the boundary of the existing zones.

As of Wednesday (24 October) there are 50 confirmed bluetongue cases, according to figures listed on the DEFRA website.
