Check cows carefully to reduce Mastitis
STAPH AUREUS has caused over 20% of mastitis cases diagnosed so far this winter, says SAC Vet Services.
Once in a herd, it’s very difficult to control and the biggest risk factor is buying in infected cows, say SAC vets. They advise buying only cows with a good mastitis history and cell counts below 100,000 cells/m.
In addition, check udders and teats of all cows before purchase.
Buy maiden heifers from good herds to reduce the risk of buying in Staph aureus.
