Red-and-white cattle demand makes for lively trade

Growing demand for red-and-white genetics produced a lively trade at a production sale from the Whiteford family’s herd held at Beeston Castle, where prices reached 3400gns.

Top call came for Middle Molli Subliem Tulip Red, an in-calf heifer out of a twice 11,000kg-plus dam by Middle Red Rudi. Bred from nine successive generations of VG and Excellent cows, she had been running with Middle Emerald Punch and heads for South Wales with the Vasami family to join their Santa Maria Holstein herd.

Bound for Scotland with an undisclosed bidder was Middle Miss Mitzy Emerald. By Middle Milestone Emerald, she hails from the milky Mitzi family and goes back to Glenafton Enhancer and Hanoverhill Triple Threat Red. She realised 2500gns.

More red Holstein influence came through in Killoch Punch 700th, a 1998-bred cow by Horizon Ranger Red. Classified Ex92, her pedigree blended greats like Pant Wizard with the influential Meadolake Jubilant. She was taken at 2300gns by W H Slater Farms in Shropshire.

Show-winning calved heifer Middle Indiana Lenni Red sold at 2200gns to J R Williamson & Co, Nantwich.

Averages: 108 cows 1109, 21 in-calf heifers 1143 and 27 bulling heifers 669. (Wright Manley)
