EC reduces Salinomax withdrawal period

The European Commission (EC) has reduced the withdrawal period of Salinomax (Salinomycin) to one day, allowing producers to use a coccidiostat between thinnings and thereby maintain protection of birds into the latter stages of the cycle.

Patrick Garland, national sales manager with Alpharma, said the reduction had followed a recommendation by the European Food Safety Authority to reduce the withdrawal period.

“In addition, the EC has defined the Maximum Residue Limit value for Salinomycin at 5ppb for wet tissue,” said Mr Garland.
