Expert answers your question on lamb abortions
Do you have questions on dealing with deformed lambs this season or queries on the causes of abortion? If so, join our live web chat tomorrow (Wednesday 30 January) to get your questions answered.
It’s easy to get involved – just visit FWi between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and you’ll be able to take part in a live online discussion with senior vet Peter Aitken from the Westpoint Vet Group.
Mr Aitken has worked at farm animal practices in New Zealand and the UK since 2002 and is a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. He has a passion for improving production, health and profitability through nutritional and vet management of livestock systems.
Many producers will be faced with higher-than-normal abortions this season following exposure to the Schmallenberg virus. However, farmers should not be too quick to blame the disease and ensure abortion material is tested to establish the true cause of the problem.
If you have questions over why you are seeing abortions, Mr Aitken may be able to help.
