Industry hit squad launched to tackle pneumonia

A new industry hit squad has been formed to help beef and dairy producers tackle calf pneumonia.

The National Youngstock Association’s “NYA Pneumonia Hit Squad”, in association with Pfizer Animal Health and Farmers Weekly, will visit three beef or dairy producers faced with a calf pneumonia problem.

The squad will include a vet from Pfizer Animal Health, NYA chairman Dr Tim Potter, a husbandry adviser from Blade Farming and Farmers Weekly‘s livestock reporter, Gemma Mackenzie.

The team will assess the pneumonia problem on each of the farms, and then devise a low-cost, high-impact DIY plan to improve calf health and performance next winter.

Farmers will be selected at random from those who attend the NYA conference this year on 28 June at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.

The conference will cover all aspects of calf rearing, including nutrition, health and breeding. To book your place email info@nationalyoungstock.co.uk or call 07597 267290.
