Limousin society confirms bull’s mystery dam

Doubts over a Limousin bull’s pedigree status have been put to bed by a DNA test confirming its dam line, according to a breed society email.

The 24,000gns Ballinloan Jaegerbomb made headlines earlier this month when questions were raised over its dam.

However, after a full and thorough investigation the British Limousin Cattle Society (BLCS) has confirmed the dam as Ballinloan Geneva, and not Ballinloan Frutella as previously stated on the breed database Taurus.

In an email to BLCS members this morning, the society said: “Through DNA testing the correct dam has been confirmed as Ballinloan Geneva UK 542434/401306.

“The pedigree for the bull will be amended accordingly. For clarity, Ballinloan Jaegerbomb retains his pedigree status.”

All calves registered to Jaegerbomb will have full pedigree status as normal, the society added.

Farmers Weekly asked the BLCS how this would impact on Ballinlon Jaegerbomb’s estimated breeding values, and was told the society would pass on more information and guidance as it became available.
