Record falls at breeders club fixture

The North East Limousin Breeders Club show and sale at Leyburn, North Yorks, achieved its best ever price last week when a bull from JM and SP Cooper of Harrogate realised 3600gns.

But the bull, Voyageur, could probably have made more if he”d been fully registered. The vendors had been unable to register the bull, who is out of a Hartside Jacko dam, following a mix-up over AI semen straws.

DNA profiling had been unable to prove the identity of the sire but buyers at Leyburn were sufficiently impressed with his shape, style and maternal breeding.

His dam, Tomschoice Ochre, is listed in the top 10 of the breed”s top 100 Signet-recorded females and his maternal brother stood reserve junior champion at the 2003 Great Yorkshire Show.

Voyageur was bought by Mr Weatherhead, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate.

Castleden Urchin, a Lino son out of a Talent dam from G D and J Clark, Hartlepool, stood champion under judge Alan Hall from Brafferton and made 2600gns to producer Chris Manners (Leyburn Auction Mart).
