New online reseeding guides and tools launched by AHDB

AHDB has launched a range of online resources to help farmers plan and manage grassland reseeding.
Reseeding pastures can improve performance and lower costs as new leys can offer increased dry matter yield, improved digestibility and a better response to nitrogen.
The resources, which have gone live this week, are:
- The recommended grass and clover lists and a grassland reseeding guide
- An interactive online tool. The aim of the tool is to help farmers select the right perennial ryegrass varieties for their system ahead of reseeding in the autumn.
- And a webinar recording explaining how to make use of the recommended list:
Dr Liz Genever, AHDB senior scientist, said: “Research indicates pastures with a low proportion of perennial ryegrass are costing beef producers up to £250 per hectare per year due to a loss of grass dry matter (DM) production and reduced nitrogen use efficiency during the growing season.
“Reseeding costs around £600 per hectare, meaning the increased profitability of the reseeded pasture would cover the reseeding cost in just over two years.”
