Oriel Jones to offer outlet for SW lamb

South-west lamb producers are being offered a new market by South Wales-based processor Oriel Jones & Sons.

The firm is the latest to provide a new outlet for the region after Lloyd Maunder, which killed 500,000 lambs a year, closed its doors in February.

Oriel Jones processes more than 1m lambs a year and is looking to increase numbers over the next 12 months, especially new-season and organic ranges.

The firm is the principal meat supplier to Sainsbury’s and also supplies food manufacturers, export markets and other multiple retailers.

Wyn Williams, procurement manager, said south-west new-season lamb was a unique branded product.

“We have concluded talks to contract kill in the West Country for new season and organic lamb and we can guarantee producers a dedicated and consistent market for produce.

“We are asking lamb producers wishing to discuss marketing opportunities to contact our Exeter-based representative Ed Chudley who can be reached on 07736 007 816.”
