Pedigree livestock trade gathers pace

Dairy trade seems to be continuing at a rapid pace up and down the country with many auctioneers reporting record averages and strong top end prices for both commerical and pedigree stock.
The recent Borderway Black and White Sale at Carlisle broke the 14,000gns mark for maiden heifers and embryos and the recent opening of Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Sedgmoor Auction Centre in the south west saw prices peak at 5000gns at the Huntlodge herd dispersal.
Bluetongue movement restrictions have seen split sales between Wright Manley and Frank Marshall auctioneers both of which have topped the 3000gns mark last week at both Chelford and Beeston venues.
Trade for pedigree sheep also continues at a pace with Texel breeders seeing a top price of 7000gns given for a shearling ewe at the Christmas Stars Sale, Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
This week sees the famous Red Ladies Derby of Limousin females at Carlisle as well as the Christmas Crackers Texel sale at Carlisle and Beltex in-lamb sale at Carlisle and Lanark. To keep up to date with these prices and much more go to Taking Stock.
