Pig antimicrobial a real bacteria basher

A NEW PIG antimicrobial said to offer almost zero levels of resistance, has been launched in the UK for treatment of severe bacterial infections, particularly those due to E coli and salmonella.

Colivet solution, made by CEVA Animal Health, is administered orally via drinking water and is active against bacteria both in their multiplication and dormant stages, says the company.

Once in the gut, little colistin is absorbed, allowing high levels to remain to combat infection.
